Our Winter Wonderland
WOW. Colorado certainly put on a show for us this past weekend! When Brandon and I arrived, we were greeted with a thick layer of snow from their most recent surprise snow storm. We’d been anticipating the trip, thinking that we’d get to see the last of the fall foliage and do some hiking. Instead, the state was in full blown winter wonderland mode, and it felt more like a Christmas vacation than a fall trip. Honestly, it was exactly what we needed. We curled up by the fire, drank endless cups of hot chocolate, watched movies, shopped the town, and explored in the snow. I couldn’t have asked for a better weekend, and both Brandon and I agreed that it put us in the holiday spirit.

Where We Stayed
We stayed at our friend’s house in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. He had graciously offered it to us multiple times, and we finally said yes since there is a direct flight from Midland to Denver. On our last night, we actually drove back early to Denver and stayed at The Oxford Hotel (you may remember it from this blog post here). It was nice to get a taste of the city and the beautiful Colorado countryside. If you are in Denver, we cannot recommend The Oxford enough. It is right next door to Union Station, making it extremely easy to hop on the RTD train and get back to the airport.

Winter Wear
As Texans, we don’t anticipate lots of snow and therefore don’t own lots of true winter clothing. I wore Hunter rain boots with liners the entire weekend and probably looked like a fool to Colorado residents. Poor Brandon wore tennis shoes most of the time but was also able to borrow some snow shoes from our friend when we went exploring in the snow. We layered up with thick sweaters and I had utilized Rent the Runway for some coats and heavier clothing.
Now that we’re in Midland, we’re slowly starting to realize that it actually gets cold. Like really cold. When we left for our flight, Midland was 25 degrees. Upon arrival to Denver, it was 15. Most of our weekend was in the teens and twenties. Brandon and I are registering that we may need some heavier clothing for the winter season ahead of us! I’m linking a few great options here, now that we’re in the mood for winter and have coats on our mind!

Overall, it was such a relaxing trip! We are headed somewhere very fun for Thanksgiving break and cannot wait to share!
