Meaningful Valentine’s Day Gifts For 2019
Valentine’s Day seems to be one of those holidays you either love or you hate. Brandon and I enjoy any opportunity to make one another feel special and instead of feeling pressure or stress in finding a “perfect” gift, we thought we’d share more meaningful Valentine’s Day gifts for 2019. Some of these will be homemade items, some will be available for purchase, but either way, I think these all give a little more significance than just a giant teddy bear.

A Homemade, Sentimental Card
Okay, hear me out on this one. Whenever I think of homemade cards, I think of a five year old creating something, but this idea can actually be quite professional and meaningful. I was searching for a card with a black lab on it that somehow still seemed “Valentine-y”. I came across this print on Etsy, available for download. It got me thinking that it would be super easy to simply create my own card! I downloaded the image and then created the card above with Canva, a free resource. You could easily find an image or a photo that holds more meaning than a generic card and create your own from that! All in all, my project cost $5 (oddly enough, the average price of a nice card from the store).

Personalized Jewelry (For Him + Her)
Jewelry often comes to mind with Valentine’s Day but I think a personalized piece gives a much more sentimental value. I love these affordable cufflinks and the fact that you can put an initial on them. As a gift for girls, a sweet and delicate necklace with your anniversary date is such a thoughtful gift. I still have mine and wear it often!
Write Something They Won’t Forget
I did this for Brandon on our first anniversary. This book has prompts and “fill in the blank” spots so that you essentially write a book about your partner. With funny things like “If you were a food you’d be…” and serious things like “My top ten things I love about you”, it’s the perfect mix of clever and meaningful. Just make sure to allow your time and actually sit down to write. It’s not a simple five page book!
Get A Plant, Not Flowers
As someone who loves fresh flowers, it’s hard for me to admit that they can oftentimes be impractical. We get ours at a wholesale shop so it’s never a huge price tag. That being said, Valentine’s Day is notorious for raising the prices on fresh blooms. Instead of opting for a dozen overpriced roses, why not go for something that will last ten times longer but still delivers that “fresh flower” feeling? I love Terrain’s plants that they offer and feel like V-day would be the perfect special occasion to invest. If that’s not your style, go to a local nursery or even Home Depot for a plant that will last through the season and beyond.
Think Of An Experience
This happens to be our favorite form of gift giving. Many times, Brandon and I have forgone the gift for a holiday and opted for an experience instead. A getaway trip, concert, formal dinner, musical, or something that just feels special to the both of you is always going to be memorable. We love the idea of building up a collection of memories and being able to look back and remember that a certain event was our way of celebrating the holiday. Last year (about this time) we went glamping and cannot recommend it enough! It was a perfect combination of adventure, romance, and relaxation. You can get the details on our experience here.
