A Moroccan Backyard Party Under The Stars
I’m so excited about today’s post! If you follow along on Instagram, then you probably remember us mentioning our backyard party with a few close friends. Of course, Brandon and I couldn’t keep things simple and had to go with a theme. I’d seen this on Pinterest and it immediately served as my inspiration for our Moroccan themed party. We took things up a notch with an outdoor movie screening of Casablanca, a perfect choice since the setting is Morocco.
I wish we had better pictures to show you guys today! I honestly wanted to document the evening in full with pictures of the food and a few as dusk transitioned into evening. But alas, we were living in the moment and simply having too much fun! We took what we could before the party got started and I created a short video for you at the end of this post. Hope you enjoy a look at our backyard Moroccan party!
The Decor
Our dinner plates were the source of my color scheme inspiration. Bright oranges, pinks, and yellow decked the table and we borrowed an old rug of my mom’s for people to lay down and watch the movie. Lanterns and candles really made everything feel magical once the sun went down and there was something romantic about eating dinner low to the ground. To us, it felt authentic and close-knit.
To really give a Moroccan vibe, we put pillows all over the rug and for people to sit on during dinner. They made it simple to transition into the outdoor movie because everyone just grabbed their pillow and found a spot to get comfortable for the film.
The tables were made out of one piece of standard plywood, cut in half to create even squares. We love the fact that we can use both or just one for future parties at the house. To hold the tables above ground, we stacked cinderblocks to our desired height. It was so simple and I know we’ll be using this table set up again in the future!
The Food
Bless Zoe’s Kitchen! Usually when we have friends over, I do the cooking. Knowing that this was a group of 11, I opted for Zoe’s Kitchen catering and it could not have been a better decision. Not only was their pricing extremely reasonable, but the food was delicious, healthy, and arrived right on time.
We ordered the pita and hummus (served as an appetizer), chicken and veggie skewers, vegetable quinoa, and the Greek salad with their famous dressing. I also served some gourmet rosemary almonds and a few other appetizers we picked up at Costco. It was so nice to keep things minimal for me in the kitchen so that I just got to focus on talking with our friends!
Brandon made his famous “sprite margaritas” (basically just a good margarita on the rocks with a splash of sprite on top). People were able to grab a drink and nibble on a few appetizers before we sat down for the actual meal once the sun started to set.
Dessert was just as delicious, and with the help of my mom and one of her best friends, I made homemade baklava, which is a pastry-like dessert with a sugared walnut filling. We also served popcorn and M&Ms because who can go without popcorn and candy during a movie?
See It In Action:
It was wishful thinking to believe that I could accurately capture the evening through photos! We had such a lovely time talking and everyone loved a backyard movie! Here’s just a short little video to showcase more of the evening:
