Our Living Room Reveal
We’re so excited to share our living room today on the blog! While we can’t say it’s completely finished, I think it’s important to showcase the process of interior design and furnishing a home. We’re only a year and a half into marriage and it’s unrealistic for us to think that our home can be completely finished and decorated. Furnishing a home is a process, and in order to find pieces that you love it’s vital to take your time in picking them out, rather than rushing out and buying things as placeholders. So, with that being said, know that there are some blank spaces on our walls and things that we hope to add later, but I hope you enjoy seeing this very realistic look. We didn’t stage or alter anything, including sweet Tara who typically sleeps on her bed while we’re on the couch.
Our two buffalo plaid chairs are the latest addition to this space. Brandon and I purchased these during the big Pottery Barn sale after Christmas with Christmas money (it was also our gift to each other). To say that I’m obsessed is an understatement. I knew the room needed a pattern of some sort but I still wanted to keep the neutral colors going. We love the shape and look of them paired with everything else. One of the best pieces of advice we received when purchasing our home was that we should acquire pieces we love over time. Our living space is an open concept and we still have empty spots but we knew we didn’t want to fill it just to kill space. I was so excited when these chairs came in because we both loved them and I knew they’d be a timeless staple for us.
Tara is such a part of our lives so of course she has her own “relaxing area”, right next to ours! We can easily move her things if we have people coming over, but Tara’s bed and toy chest are very much a part of our everyday lives. Her copper canister is filled with tennis balls (pretty much her favorite thing ever), and she loves picking out one of her “babies”, or stuffed animals, every morning when she wakes up.
Knick knacks are an important part of any room and many of our decorative items came from our wedding registry. One of my favorite “small items” in our living room are the coffee table wedding albums that we leave sitting out. Anytime someone comes over, that’s always something they reach for and it’s fun for us to relive the special day. Personal touches like this are so important to help make any house feel like a home.
You may be noticing our elaborate flower centerpiece on the coffee table. I actually posted about this in Wednesday’s post but the arrangement came from my floral class at The Vintage Bouquet flower shop. Of course I wanted it front and center in our home! One of the easiest ways to make a room feel put together is to utilize fresh flowers. You can find hydrangeas or roses as a staple in our living room because fresh flowers are definitely one of my weaknesses.
