My First Lash Experience
Last year, about this time, I got my first set of eyelash extensions. They weren’t exactly what I expected…
I went to a local nail salon because they were running a special price on the extensions. I’ve always been a fan of long, beautiful lashes and couldn’t resist the price point. I am a little weird when it comes to eyes. I don’t like touching my eyes and one time I even passed out at the eye doctor because I was so freaked out after they dilated my eyes. Not sure what my problem is, but needless to say, eyelash extensions were a bit of a challenge for me personally. Why I thought it would be a good idea to go to a nail salon and not a professional, I’ll never know. The entire process was extremely uncomfortable and lasted two hours. The end result looked good but the material of the lashes was thick and almost plastic-like. It was uncomfortable and I felt like the lashes made me sleep weird because I was so nervous about messing them up.
Last month, Lash Out Loud Beauty Bar approached me about trying lashes out again. I figured I could give the whole process another chance, especially since this time would be with a professional. I also couldn’t deny that I loved shaving off a few minutes of my makeup routine by not having much eye makeup at all. I hesitantly said yes and went to my appointment so that I could share everything you need to know about lash extensions.
Everything You Need To Know About Eyelash Extensions
I arrived to Lash Out Loud and quickly scrubbed my face free of makeup. I just stored my Neutrogena Hydro Boost Makeup Remover in my bag so that I could be sure to have a clean face. I was coming from school so I did have my normal, everyday makeup on. That being said, it’s really important to make sure that you don’t have any oils or mascara on your eyes because the adhesive won’t work well, causing your new lashes to fall off easier.
The entire process took about two hours but was much more comfortable than my last experience. My technician Jen had a comfy chair for me to lean back in, a blanket, and fun music playing the whole time.
Jen told me that the extensions could last anywhere from four to six weeks because I got the volume lash fill. That particular kind lasts longer than the expected two to four weeks, due to the glue adhesive and the lashes themselves. After that, it’s recommended that customers come back for a fill to maintain. I already know that I’m going back for a fill because I LOVE these lashes! The mink material is so much softer than my “plastic” ones from before, and it doesn’t feel like I have anything on my eyes. I sleep perfectly fine and I feel like this set of lashes is such a great quality compared to my first.
One important thing to remember with lash extensions is that you’re not really meant to wear eye makeup (mascara + eyeliner). The natural look enhances your eyes, even without makeup. For me, this is easily my favorite part of the extensions. I love being able to get up in the morning and shave a few minutes off my makeup routine by not wearing eyeliner and mascara. I also think extensions are perfect during the summer for beach trips and pool days because you can go without makeup, but it looks like you’re wearing it.
I created a little “highlight tab” on IG Stories for my lash experience. You can see before and after pictures there and video on the process. Jen can also help answer any specific questions you may have, or you can feel free to ask me below in the comments section! Overall, I loved this experience and the end result. Definitely something great to have for summer months ahead, weddings, a special life event, or even just to amplify your date night look.
