K: Our second hotel that we stayed at during the Santa Fe trip was Hotel St. Francis. We broke up the four nights with two hotels, just to see a different area of town. Hotel St. Francis is located right in the midst of everything downtown, walking distance from all of the major shops and restaurants. Upon arrival, we were stunned at the gorgeous lobby and aesthetic. It felt European and not like traditional Santa Fe at all, which was a cool change from all of the adobe around.
Hotel St. Francis is most primarily known for Secreto bar in the lobby. Defined as one of the best spots to grab a pre-dinner cocktail, that’s exactly what we did on our first night there. The lobby area is where we actually spent our time to unwind after long days of exploration, simply because the rooms are quite small. This is our one qualm with the hotel and as two people that travel with a lot of clothing, we only wished we’d had more floor space to lay out our suitcases. Our room was very minimal, but still retained a lot of charm with it’s functioning window, pedestal sink, antique furniture, and crisp white bedding. One final caveat with the room: ask the front desk for a box fan. We got pretty stuffy at night and sleeping with the window open led to a lot of noise. On our second night there we had the fan which helped to cool us down immensely. I believe the hotel turns the AC on in April so while we were there, it was still considered there “winter season” and they didn’t have functioning AC.
The primary benefit of Hotel St. Francis is, as aforementioned, the fact that it is walking distance from almost everything. Its central location allowed us to go out for an evening walk, or come back for an afternoon siesta without the worry of parking, a car, or simply being too far. If you’ve only got a short amount of time in Santa Fe, I’d definitely say the location of this hotel allows you to experience a lot.
Even if you don’t decide to stay here, we’d highly recommend popping in for a cocktail or sitting a while on the darling front porch or patio. The lobby in itself is a sight to see and Hotel St. Francis also has a restaurant inside (though we did not get the chance to eat there). Let us know if you have any questions about our stay!
