K: If you’re a long time reader, then you know that Brandon and I consistently take advantage of our weekends together and often find little day dates to go on. This weekend was no different and we ventured 45 minutes north of San Antonio to the rustic and charming town of Gruene, Texas. Filled with antiques, white picket fences, and a true rustic-Western motif, this tiny town is perfect for an afternoon of exploration. Of course, we each had been there before, but never together.
We had such a great time, despite the Texas summer heat, and thought that this would be an easy date to re-create, even if you aren’t making the trip to Gruene. Simply find the tiniest town closest to you, search for a lunch spot, and explore what it has to offer. Gruene is home to the oldest dance hall in the state, several quaint shops, bed and breakfast hotels, and plenty of Texas themed spots to take pictures. The bottom line? Wherever you choose to go, make it an adventure and learn something new.
B: I was in literal bliss sipping on some ice cold tea in the shade of an antique and trinket shop in Gruene, TX. As mentioned before, I am a tea connoisseur. I have to be careful of a particular tea’s caffeine content because I can quickly overdose with resulting heart murmurs, eye flutters, and shaky limbs. Nonetheless, my drink of choice on nearly all outings involves tea blends of greens, whites, or blacks. On this particular day, the simplicity of unsweet Lipton black tea, short shorts, and a white linen shirt was perfectly suited to the weather.
K: It’s laughable that I originally thought I’d pair this dress with my new booties and a denim jacket. Just thinking about it now makes me break out into a sweat. The heat index on this particular August afternoon was over 100 and we were melting! To keep things practical, I opted for leather sandals and a neutral belt to tie the look together. As much as I wanted to show you guys a fall look, you’ll have to settle with “pre-fall” and the fact that this rust-colored dress would be darling with a jacket, tights, and boots when the cooler weather finally hits.
