B: For Katherine and myself, adventure has been an important component to our dating and married lives thus far. We love gaining new perspectives, experiencing cultures not of our own, and hearing stories from those we meet along the way. Sadly enough, many live life without the opportunity or drive to seek out the majesty of the world in a natural or domestic state. Ernest Hemingway once stated, “the only value we have as human beings are the risks we are willing to take”. We are not broadcasting that adventures need to be risky, but we rather feel that once you are outside of your typical comfort zone, at whatever level that appears, a risk develops and the true journey of adventure begins. Whether you start small or broad with adventures to that acclaimed restaurant on the other side of town, or to provide relief to a war stricken country, Louis Vuitton reminded us in their 2008 add campaign (you can see it here) that a journey shows us not only the world, but how we fit in the world because the journey is life itself.
K: Out of the two of us, I would definitely say that Brandon is more adventurous than I am. I love this about him though because he’s constantly stretching me and pushing me to embrace adventure, whether that’s through travel, food, fashion, and our day to day activities. I’m always up for it and I feel like saying “yes” to opportunities is probably the biggest way to keep your sense of adventure. By continually saying yes, it ensures that you’re open, willing, and ready for anything. Additionally, it’s important to seek out adventure. Explore, get out of your comfort zone, meet new people, and take risks. Adventure cannot come without these factors.
Tips for Keeping Your Sense of Adventure:
1. Travel as often as possible: Make travel a priority (whether it’s a simple weekend trip or a trip to Asia). Adventure naturally comes when you’re away from home
2. Try new things: sign up to go skydiving, take on a new hobby, cook a new meal, try anything that will bring you a new experience.
3. Say “yes”.
4. Surround yourself with people who are adventurous. By keeping company with those who also embrace adventure, you’ll find that their mindset transfers onto you.
5. Explore: wherever you are, make exploration a part of your life. Get out and discover new areas of your town, your neighborhood, or your state. We really make an effort to do this in an attempt to find something new in a city that we both know so well.
